Gamma Sig Here, Gamma Sig There, Gamma Sig Everywhere: California

Over this past summer, I had an opportunity to go to California for my cousin’s wedding. Having never been to California, but always wanting to go, I took this opportunity and ran with it. In short, this was the best trip of my life and it makes me want to move out west someday.

California has always been interesting to me. It’s so beautiful with the perfect mixture of mountains and beaches surrounding the state. Add that to the perfect weather year-round. It’s truly a magical place.

When I went to California it was only for a mere 4 days, 2 of those days were filled with traveling, so we only had one full day to site see. I wish I was there for longer because in those 2 days, I fell in love. I didn’t want to come back home.... ever.

We left on a Thursday morning. My parents and I took a flight to San Francisco because the wedding was about 2 hours north of the city. On the flight, I actually ran into a friend from high school who was going to her sister’s graduation. The flight was long, but as we got closer and closer to California the excitement and anticipation grew for me

Once we landed in California, I felt that I was in my happy place. I was smiling from ear to ear and my heart felt whole. We hadn’t even left the airport yet and all I want to do was jump up and down from excitement.

After leaving the airport, my family and I spent 3 hours in painful bumper to bumper traffic just leaving the city of San Francisco. I began to feel the dreadful emotions of hunger and anger and it was not a good look for me. Once we got to the hotel, I ate some food and my hangriness went away and the food was worth the wait. I got this avocado chicken sandwich, I truly felt on cloud 9 after eating this sandwich. I went to bed right after because I was tired, and I had spent about 10 hours of the day traveling and that is exhausting.

The next day was the fun day. My parents and I explored the city we were staying in and it was beautiful. We went to this market and walked around. Then we drove around for some hours and the entire time we were driving around my jaw dropped. It was so beautiful and breathtaking. It was like someone had gone into my brain of what an ideal world would physically look like and laid it out for me. It turns out that place was California.

After our driving adventures, my parents took me to In-N-Out. It was the best burger I had in the world. I got animal style fries and it was like every wish I ever had came true in my mouth. Best thing ever. I highly recommend In-N-Out. Shortly after that, my family and I relaxed at the hotel for a bit. Then my dad wanted to treat me to Frozen Yogurt. Once again, the best frozen yogurt in the world! It was so good. Finally, after all of that, my parents and I drove about 45 minutes north to grab dinner with my brother and his girlfriend. I’ve never loved food more after that point. It was great seeing my brother after not seeing him for a long time too.

The next day was the wedding and it was spectacular. I got to see my cousins for the first time in a long time and it was an amazing event. My cousin had someone make fresh mozzarella and tiny doughnuts at his wedding, and they were the best things to have ever come into my life. They so good.

All in all, the trip was filled with a lot of delicious food, beautiful scenery, and a lot of family. It was great getting to experience both, especially the family part. Being in college it’s hard to go on experiences like this one with your family. The fact that I had this luxury made me really grateful and it will always be one of the best trips of my life. Coming back to the East Coast was really bittersweet because California was so spectacular, but I am glad now to be back in Delaware. I cannot wait for my next adventure wherever it takes me.
